HOMEMADE NAAN BREAD

I am literally so impressed with myself because these bad boys turned out perfect. Everyone loves naan bread and when you make it yourself and know what goes into it.  They only contain 3 main ingredients and are kinda fun to make.

These are not gluten free but I am sure you can substitute for a gluten free flour. I am not sure a paleo mix would work. I have tried a mix of almond and coconut flour in the past but it wasn’t the same consistency.  I shall work on this for you. If you can eat gluten there is NO need to cut it out of your diet. This recipe is perfectly healthy and okay to eat in moderation. I will post my curry recipe too.

HOMEMADE NAAN BREAD

Serves 8 pieces – 4-6 people

INGREDIENTS

2x 7g sachets of dry yeast

1 tsp sugar

1/2 cup hot tap water

1 Tbs olive oil

1/2 cup greek yoghurt plain

2 1/2 cups flour (I used Self Raising but you can use plain too)

+ more flour for the bench and sticky hands

Butter and garlic for

METHOD

Mix hot water, yeast and sugar together. Yeast will go frothy and foamy. Leave aside for 10 minutes.

In a large bowl add the sifted flour. Make a well in the middle. Add oil, herbs, yoghurt and yeast mix. Mix together, pour onto bench and knead for 5-10 minutes. If it is too sticky add more flour and make sure there is flour all over the bench.

Put back in the bowl and cover with a wet cloth and put near a hot oven, heater, warm stove etc. Leave for 45 mins – 60 mins and hopefully the dough will double in size and rise. Mine didn’t rise too much but this is okay.

Divide dough into 2 pieces. And then again into 4. So you will have 8 pieces. On a floured bench flatten each piece using your hands into naan pieces.

In a hot oiled pan (I did one piece at a time in a small pan but you can do 2-3 in a large fry pan) fry up each piece for 1 minute each side. Set aside on plate. Rub/paste butter garlic mix on each piece and serve !!

For the following day place naan in a hot oven for about 5-7 minutes to warm through. They are safe to eat the following day. If there is any left.

ENJOY !
